For a Road user who has used Centenary Park lane road knows how handy it can be during rush hours. This road was in a dire state when Uganda Road Fund came in to finance its construction or upgrade owing to its importance especially the decongestion of the Garden city and Jinja road Airtel roundabout. On Friday 12th March 2021 the Uganda Road Fund Board and KCCA Executive Director and Deputy Executive Directors inspected the Centenary park lane road to look at the progress of the road which is at 86% completion according to the project Engineer, Eng. Sserunjoji Andrew Mukiibi.

Dr. Eng. Andrew Naimanye, the Uganda Road Executive Director thanked KCCA for implementing the project as initially conceived in 2019. He said that when KCCA approached the Fund, with a proposal to finance the construction of Centenary park lane, a 0.7km road that would relieve traffic to the two major roads. Ms. Dorothy Kisaka, the Executive Director KCCA thanked the Fund for financing Kampala City roads. She said that the City still grappled with old roads which were central to Kampala’s business outlets. KCCA had identified 5 roads that will be extensively rehabilitated under URF at a cost of UGX 14bn, she said. The roads include Mapeera rd, Muganzi Lwaza, Nsambya rd, Kikuba Mutwe rd and Bunyonyi rd.  The rehabilitation of these roads is meant to decongest busy roads in Kampala. The KCCA ED, pledged to put road maintenance funds to good use.

The Board Chairperson Ms. Rosemary Owino, extended thanked to KCCA on behalf of the URF Board and pledged more support on special projects.
